Amherst Chamber of Commerce to Present "The Athletic Leader"

Amherst Chamber of Commerce to Present "The Athletic Leader"

The Amherst Chamber of Commerce’s Emerging Business Leaders will host a leadership workshop on February 10, 2011 from 5:30pm – 7:30pm. Titled “The Athletic Leader: Train Like an Olympian,” the seminar will be presented by Dr. Dionne Kress, Professional Leadership Coach at Allen Hall on the University at Buffalo’s South Campus..

Leaders should be trained like corporate athletes.  This is the theory behind “The Athletic Leader.”  In order for leaders to maintain a high level of performance over a long period of time, they need to develop their leadership skills on the same multi-levels as professional athletes develop their athletic skills.  A balanced approach to leadership development will dramatically improve leadership performance, enhance health and overall happiness.  “The Athletic Leader” will teach attendees recovery rituals and take-home techniques that can be applied that very day.

Golden Snowball Still Up for Grabs

Well, here we are deep into January with cold temps, clouds and snow showers filling just about every day in the 7day forecast.  Here in WNY we've had our share of lake effect snow, but with Lake Erie now looking more like a glacier that is slowing down.  Most of the true snow storms this year have bypassed Buffalo and WNY on their way to the coastal cities.  So with the end of the month approaching it's a good time to count up all the fallen flakes and see where we stack up in the Golden Snowball Contest.

Typically here in Buffalo we shovel for second with Rochester, while our friends in Syracuse snow blow a path to first with Binghamton and Albany dusting off the rear.  So without further delay here's the standings as of Today January 27th....

Yellow Icicles And Snow Mystery Solved

BUFFALO, NY - It's a mystery that has baffled some homeowners from Amherst all the way down to Lackawanna. Yellow icicles hanging from their homes.

Some believe passing planes are too blame, but the Erie County Health Department believes differently.

2 On Your Side cameras were there as Lackawanna Code Enforcement officers checked out Chris Giglio's property, and that of his neighbors.

The yellow icicles are similar to the ones that showed up last week in the Washington Highway-area in Amherst.

Giglio says this problem is coming from the skies above.

"I think it would come from a plane. It's the only thing that I can come up with that would discharge this much at one time to be able to cover this much area."

But the Erie County Health Department's Scott Zimmerman (DrPH, MPH) says it may be mother nature.

Fuddruckers Closes in Amherst

AMHERST, NY (WGRZ) -- A well-known burger joint in the northtowns has shut its doors for good.

The doors are locked at Fuddruckers on Maple Road in Amherst.  A sign on the door informs customers that the restaurant has shut down.  But the Fuddruckers near the Walden Galleria is still open.

Tony Niece, a spokesperson for Luby's Fuddruckers Restaurants, e-mailed us the following statement about the Amherst location that's now closed

"The Fuddruckers location in Amherst was owned and operated by a franchisee and has closed its doors.  Luby's Fuddruckers Restaurants, Inc. is committed to the Amherst market and we look forward to identifying new opportunities to open another unit and continue to serve our loyal customer base."

Snowmobiling Approved for Canalway Trail

Snowmobiling Approved for Canalway Trail

ALBANY, NY (readMedia) -- In an example of grassroots government, new state regulations clear the way for snowmobilers to use the Canalway Trail. The activity previously had been prohibited along the 280-mile trail that parallels most of the New York State Canal System in Upstate New York.

With the consent of local communities, snowmobile organizations now can receive permits to operate on the Canalway Trail under new regulations of the New York State Canal Corporation. Private snowmobile operators also can use trails that have been authorized by the Canal Corporation.

Snowmobile clubs must obtain a resolution of support from the municipality where the Canalway Trail is located before applying for a permit from the Canal Corporation. A municipality has the option to continue the prohibition along its stretch of the trail. The regulations apply to lands under the jurisdiction of the Canal Corporation.
