Pet Separation Anxiety

It isn’t just children who suffer from the back to school blues—pets can suffer too. After a long, fun summer, an empty house can be a difficult adjustment for pets. Pet Sitters International advises pet owners to become familiar with the signs of pet separation anxiety and how it can be treated.

Pet separation anxiety is a psychological term to describe the stress and anxiety brought on by separation from the primary pet caretaker. This issue can become a serious medical condition, with cases and their accompanying symptoms ranging from mild to severe. Most pet owners are familiar with the more common symptoms, but many may be surprised to learn that the full extent of the symptoms begin before the owner leaves and continues long after their departure.

If Disaster Strikes, Do You Have a Plan?

Be Prepared with a Disaster Plan

The best way to protect your family from the effects of a disaster is to have a disaster plan. As a pet owner, that plan must include your pets. Being prepared can save their lives. Different disasters require different responses. But whether the disaster is a hurricane or a hazardous spill, you may have to evacuate your home.

In the event of a disaster, if you must evacuate, the most important thing you can do to protect your pets is to evacuate them, too. Leaving pets behind, even if you try to create a safe place for them, is likely to result in their loss, injury or death. So prepare now for the day when you and your pets may have to leave your home.

Farm Sanctuary Holding Fundraiser

Bob Harper piglet, pictured above, was rescued after falling off of a transport truck, into traffic. The video above is Jay the bull. He was on a transport truck headed to slaughter when the driver crashed, and the truck burst into flames. Jay was burned badly, and Farm Sanctuary stepped up to care for him, and provide him a safe forever home.

For these, and other rescues like them, I am hosting a chinese auction to raise vital funds for Farm Sanctuary. Tickets for the items will be 5 tickets for $5, or for $10 you can get 15 tickets.

On September 27 Merge Restaurant, at 439 Delaware Avenue, will be opening their doors from 5-8 p.m for a chinese auction to benefit Farm Sanctuary. There will be entertainment, food, drinks, and great folks supporting a wonderful cause. $30 will cover your food, alcoholic beverages and entertainment and for $20, all of the same, with non-alcoholic beverages.
