What Can Be Done to Treat Arthritis in Cats?

A recent study shows that more than 20% of the older cats in the USA suffer from arthritis. Arthritis in cats causes their joints to deteriorate and cause pain in the tendons, most commonly due to their old age and athleticism. Arthritis is found normally even in people due to less movement and also in other pets mostly due to their high age, high level of activity and also their fatness. Other reasons causing feline arthritis can be due to stress or mental trauma. Osteoarthritis arthritis in the most commonly found kind in cats where the joints wear and tear due to age causes inflammation and dislocation of joints, severe pain, limping, stiffness and lameness.

Gronkowski's Make NFL Splash

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Call it sibling rivalry to the extreme!

Williamsville's Gronkowski brothers have accomplished something that hasn't been done in 20 years, three brothers playing in the NFL.

Dan was just traded from Detroit to Denver. Rob and Chris, who were teammates and roomates last year in college, joined big brother in the big league this year. Rob is a tight-end in New England and Chris, a full-back, made the final roster in Dallas.

For their dad, Gordie, the magnitude of what his boys have done is just starting to sink in.

We had to speak with Gordie over the phone because he was in St. Louis, watching his oldest son, Gordie jr, playing minor league baseball. Just another stop in what's become a very busy life.

Pakistani-Americans Host Fundraiser for Flood Victims

AMHERST, NY - The Pakistani-Americans in the WNY area hosted a fundraiser to assist victims in the widespread flooding in Pakistan.

Over 200 locals gathered at the Islamic Society of the Niagara Frontier in Amherst Monday evening.

An eyewitness in the flooding, who recently returned to the area, made a special presentation at the event.

The United Nations has described the disaster as worse than the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake all combined.

Dog Park Safety

Dog Park Safety

Dog parks are great places for dogs to play and socialize with other dogs. Unfortunately, the fun can sometimes turn violent. Without proper knowledge, a dog and its handler are both subject to injury.

Robin Bennett, an author and trainer with All About Dogs in Woodbridge, Va., believes that in order for dog parks to be safe, dogs need to be properly supervised. This means that dog owners must know what to watch for if problems arise between the dogs.

“Early warning signs indicating that a dog is stressed include lip licking, yawning, half moon eyes, stiffening and avoidance,” Bennett said. “These signals all happen before things get too far out of hand.”

Portion of Youngs Road in Amherst Temporarily Closed

AMHERST, N.Y. -- A portion of Youngs Road, south of Klein Road, will be shut down while the Town of Amherst continues work on a construction project in Bassett Park.

The flood mitigation project is designed to help improve storm water drainage in Bassett Park near Youngs and Klein Roads.

Officials hope this project will address ongoing flooding issues by temporarily storing excess runoff from one of the ditches during heavy rain.

The closure of Youngs Road will only be during business hours and only last for a few days.

The project began in August and should be completed in October.
