AMHERST, N.Y. - Police in Amherst are investigating the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman.

Police say the woman was walking westbound on Wehrle Drive under the Thruway overpass around 1:00 a.m. Monday July 5 when a male jumped out of some bushes, grabbed her, pushed her to the ground, and then raped her.

Investigators say the suspect also went through the woman's purse and took her debit card and $20 cash.  The suspect ran away.  A neighbor heard the victim crying and called police.

The attacker is described as a black male, 6'0 tall, weighing 180 pounds with braided black hair, and brown eyes.  He was wearing a black v-neck short-sleeved t-shirt, dark jeans and diamond earrings.
