Dear Fred:

Just a short note to connect. I hope that my e-mail finds you doing ok. I wanted to let you know that I concluded my time in Bogota and Colombia with a weekend meditation retreat. There was not room in the place where the retreat was held, for one more person. Most of the people that I have encountered in Colombia are so thirsty to live differently. The people that I have met, wether in the exclusive boarding schools, or in the Comuna's are willing and committed. Meditation groups are beginning to spring up here and there as well as groups who are dedicated to provide those with less opportunities the possibility to turn their lives around.

I traveled to Ecuador on Monday, 4 October, I arrived and had my first commitment that night. After the commitment I was just about to settle down to popcorn when the dog that belongs to the people who were hosting me bit me in the face. This required some stitches, 25 or so, in the corner of my mouth. The medical care was great. All in all so far, a most interesting visit to South America this year. It also seems like I am coming closer to being invited to Argentina and also to Guatemala.

My first full day in Ecuador I did a presentation with executives at the headquarters for Bayer Chemical in Quito and then I left there to go and do a talk at a women's prison. Also while in Quito I went to a Juvenile detention center for young women and met with the Afro-Ecuadorian community.

On Thursday, 7 October I left Quito where I have been since coming to Ecuador. I traveled to a city more in the South and toward the coast - Guayaquil. I arrived and then went directly to a radio station and did an interview. The next day I went to visit a home for battered women, I met with a community of undocumented migrants, mostly those who are fleeing from politically violent situations. I have also done a couple of public talks and Saturday, 9 October and today, Sunday, 10 October 2010 I facilitated one day meditation retreats. Then this evening I was invited to do a talk at a Tibetan Buddhist Center here in Guayaquil. Just now I am in the last days of my time here in South America. I have two very full days tomorrow and Tuesday, one day free and then I leave late Thursday, 14 October evening.

I look forward to our next contact and to seeing you soon - so, until then.

With Much Care and

Respect - In Gassho:

Claude AnShin
