The Amherst Center for Senior Services held their 34th annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon held on May 4, 2017 at Classics V Banquet Center where more than 300 volunteers and dignitaries attended. The Honorable Barry A. Weinstein, M.D., Supervisor for the Town of Amherst and the Honorable Steven D. Sanders, Deputy Supervisor, Town of Amherst Liaison to Senior Services addressed the volunteers. The featured speaker was Elizabeth Mattson, Co-Founder of Ohana100. The event was sponsored by the Amherst Senior Citizens Foundation, Beechwood/Asbury Pointe and Presbyterian Senior Care.

The Center has 1,468 volunteers who collectively contributed 71,584 volunteer hours of service in the community in 2016. The volunteers donate their time at over 82 venues in 2016 including the American Cancer Society, Amherst Senior Center, Junior Achievement, Ohana100 and the SPCA.

In addition, many volunteers brought new children’s book for Ohana100, which promotes literacy and community service by providing free new and gently used books to kids and organizations as well as supporting literacy initiatives in local communities. With help from dedicated volunteers, Ohana100 is able to provide services to many children in Hawaii and New York. For more information, visit: www.ohana100.org/
