Free Concert, Scottish Festival Among August Highlights at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village

 

Four fun-filled events, including a concert by the Amherst Symphony Orchestra and the extremely popular Scottish Festival — are among the August highlights at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, located at 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road, Amherst.

Guest are invited to enjoy the sweet sounds of the Amherst Symphony Orchestra at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8. Light snacks and refreshments will be available, and the event will take place rain or shine. The concert is free and open to the public, and guests are encouraged to bring picnic baskets, chairs and blankets for their comfort.

Americana Days, celebrated from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 12 and 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. July 13, will highlight a busy July calendar at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, located at 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road in Amherst.

A celebration of America’s greatest pastimes, Americana Days will feature toys and games, live music, food vendors, a petting zoo courtesy of Kelkenberg Farms and a focus on the village’s historic buildings. Activities will include kite making, tin punching, blacksmithing, rope making, lace making, treadle machine demonstrations, cooking, Victorian dance performances, woodworking, Weavers' Guild of Buffalo demonstrations, silhouettes and croquet.

The reigning Drum Corps International world champion Carolina Crown will visit Western New York to take part in West Seneca Community Days festivities on Saturday, June 28. Their appearance is a prelude to the annual Drums Along the Waterfront “Tour of Champions” taking place on Sunday, Aug. 3, at UB Stadium in Amherst.

The West Seneca Civic & Patriotic Commission's annual Community Days will take place from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, June 27, and from noon to midnight Saturday, June 28, in Veterans Park behind West Seneca Town Hall.

One of Western New York’s favorite annual traditions, the Roycroft Summer Arts & Crafts Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 28-29 and feature the work of more than 80 juried artisans, including many Roycroft Renaissance Artisans! This family friendly event will take place on the grounds of Parkdale Elementary School, 141 Girard Ave., East Aurora.

Daemen is First Recipient of New Arts Award

AMHERST, N.Y. -- Daemen College has been selected as the first recipient of the Business Supporter Award presented as part of the Town of Amherst Arts and Culture in Public Places Board’s newly created program to celebrate contributions to the arts in the community.

The honor was presented at the inaugural Amherst Awards for the Arts event held May 13 in MusicalFare Theatre on the college’s campus. The awards program recognizes organizations and individuals who provide outstanding service to local art and display excellence within the arts discipline.

“Daemen has a longstanding dedication to fostering visual and performing arts as well as in nurturing the artistic, creative and intellectual potential of our students in an array of programs,” said Daemen President Gary A. Olson. “We are proud to receive this honor and be recognized as a vital center of arts and cultural development in Amherst and throughout the region.”

German Sommerfest to Highlight June Events at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village

 

Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village’s popular German Sommerfest returns on June 21, highlighting several family activities scheduled throughout the month. BNHV is located at 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road in Amherst.

Taking place from noon to 6 p.m., BNHV’s German Sommerfest features a VW Bug Car Show, authentic German beer and cuisine provided by Scharf's Restaurant and CRāVing Catering, music by the German American Musicians and the WNY Alphorn Society, and much more. Tickets are just $6 for adults and $5 for members, while kids 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
