Amherst Chamber to Host Educational Workshop

The Amherst Chamber of Commerce and special guest Katherine Lucas of Emedia Studios will present the informative workshop “Creating Video that Works” on Friday, October 15, 2010 at Bryant & Stratton College’s new Amherst Campus, 3650 Millersport Highway.  Registration will start at 8:15 am and the workshop will begin promptly at 8:30 am.

“Creating Video that Works” is the third presentation in the Chamber’s fall series of educational workshops.  Lucas will provide examples of the various methods of using video for efficient and effective marketing.  While most people think that an expensive campaign is the best use of video, web based video used to educate, explain and of course sell, is growing in popularity.

Helios NRG Selected to Develop Green Technology

Helios-NRG, LLC has been awarded an SBIR grant by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop step-change technology that would produce renewable bio-fuels from algae.  This technology has the potential to create green jobs in Western New York, decrease the need for imported oil and reduce global warming.

The NSF grant will accelerate the development of a current Helios-NRG algae project.  The funding will allow Helios-NRG to potentially capture large quantities of carbon dioxide from industrial sources, such as power plants, and convert it through sunlight to useful bio-fuels.  The ultimate goal is to replace the petroleum that is currently being imported to the United States with the algae byproduct.  The algae can be produced on wasteland and can use waste from agricultural, municipal and industrial sources to grow.

Cintas Announces Partnership with Carhartt

Cintas Corporation (Nasdaq:CTAS), North America’s largest uniform supplier, has partnered with Carhartt, a global manufacturer of premium workwear, to offer a line of Carhartt garments designed specifically for a uniform rental program.

According to a statement released by Carhartt, a uniform program is one of the best and easiest business building decisions that a company can make. With Carhartt Rental Workwear from Cintas, companies can increase their employee morale by giving their workers the clothes they want to wear every day with the convenience of a laundry service.

“The strength of our company is our employees, so to dress them well makes us feel like we’re supporting them well,” says Mark Barkosky, a manager at Buckingham Coal, who is also in the Cintas rental program and appreciates the Carhartt quality firsthand.  “It looks real good, it feels real good, it’s real practical.  And believe me, we put it to the test.”
