Amherst Senior Center's "One Stop Services" Include Lunch Program For All Erie County Seniors

The Amherst Senior Center welcomes all adults age 60 and up, residing anywhere in Erie County, to enjoy tasty, economical hot lunches in the Nutrition Lunch Program, serving Monday through Friday at noon. 

The Lunch Program, part of Erie County’s Stay Fit Dining Program for seniors, offers “food for body, mind and soul,” including delicious meals, companionship in a bright, cheerful dining room, and weekly pre-lunch exercise with an instructor. Diners share the company of other friendly and interesting lunch-goers, and helpful Center staff and volunteers serve lunch at the table and cafeteria-style. 

For a suggested donation of just $2.50, seniors enjoy restaurant-quality hot meals prepared fresh in the Senior Center kitchen facility each day. Lunches include a variety of nutritious food, including seasonal meals, special occasion and holiday parties, and picnics. 

Reservations are required 24 hours in advance by calling 636-3059. 

Saint Benedict School to Celebrate the Drummer Boy Mass

St. Benedict School is having their annual Drummer Boy Mass on Thursday, December 16, 2010 in the church at 10am.  St. Benedict School is located at 3980 Main Street, Amherst, NY 14226.  The whole student body and faculty process into the church bringing wrapped Christmas Gifts to be given to La Casa – a local refugee house in Buffalo. 

The music from ‘The Drummer Boy’ is played and a special 2nd grade boy is chosen as the Drummer Boy to lead the procession. This special annual tradition at St. Benedict School will surely grip your heart and will remind you of the true meaning of Christmas. 

League of Women Voters Seeks Gift-Wrapping Volunteers

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Holiday shopping time is upon us and the League of Women Voters of Buffalo-Niagara is recruiting volunteer gift wrappers to man its Holiday Gift Wrap booth at Eastern Hills Mall. Organizers are looking to recruit at least 300 volunteers.

“This year represents an especially big challenge for us as it is our first effort and we want to it to succeed,” said League office administrator Eugene Abrahamson in a statement. “The Eastern Hills Mall has asked us to wrap gifts for their customers and we are very happy to make this the first of many annual gift-wrap seasons.”

League volunteers will be at the mall to provide gift-wrapping services now through December 24. Each shift is four hours: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., 2 – 6 p.m. and 6 – 10 p.m.

“We see this as an excellent opportunity to make a worthwhile contribution in the spirit of the holidays, earn money to support our League projects and have fun at the same time,” said Abrahamson.

Food 2 Families: Make Your Donation at Maple Road Tops

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The annual Food 2 Families drive to benefit the Food Bank of Western New York takes place on Friday, December 10th at the Tops Market, 3980 Maple Road, Amherst.

Two On Your Side will broadcast live from the Transit Road location in Depew all day long but you can donate food from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. at any of the participating Tops locations.

Holiday Cocktail Party to benefit Toys for Tots

AmherstNightOut.com will be hosting a Holiday Cocktail Party Monday December 6th from 5:00-8:00pm at the Eagle House Restaurant

There will be drink specials, and complimentary hors d’oeuvres to include; mini Reuben’s, Swedish meatballs, roasted veggie pizza, & fried shrimp.

In the spirit of the Holidays, if you would like to purchase an ornament for $5 to hang on the tree at the Eagle House with your name, or name of your business, we will be donating the money to Toys for Tots.

UPDATE: Williamsville Teen Wins $10,000 'Top Turkey' Scholarship Award


Hyde Park, NY, December 14, 2010 – Seven aspiring chefs are winners in the fourth-annual Culinary Institute of America Top Turkey Scholarship Contest. The top recipe award was presented to Stephen Petrotto of Williamsville, NY, who received $10,000 for his Croquette Turkey Dinner recipe. 

Pet Connection Announces Holiday Season Events

Pet Connection Programs Inc. is counting on support from the generous residents of Western New York to make this a happy holiday season. Volunteers from the nonprofit maternity and special care animal shelter located in Marilla will be at several locations throughout Erie County in an effort to raise funds for the care of dozens of dogs and cats in need of loving homes.

Activities kick off on Black Friday as volunteers from the shelter will be selling their ever-popular pet totes filled with food, treats and toys at the Eastern Hills Mall, near Dave & Buster’s. The volunteers will return to the mall on three Saturday: November 27, December 11 and December 18. Pups from the shelter will also be there to greet you!
