Public Helped in Identification of a Person of Interest

With Help from the public via Channel 2 News, the person of interest in a possible grand larceny incident that was shown in a security video on the Amherst Police Facebook page was identified.

Amherst Police Detectives have identified the person in the video and have successfully returned the diamond ring to the owner.  No arrests were made at this time however the investigation is continuing.

Amherst Police Warn of Thefts Involving Elderly Victims

The Town of Amherst Police Department is investigating a series of complaints involving thieves targeting elderly victims. In each of the complaints a white male, described as 5’10 with a medium build, approaches the victim claiming to be a roofer and requesting access to the residence.   

In two of the three incidents the suspect was accompanied by a white female with brown hair believed to be in her fifties. The female suspect would engage the victim in conversation while the other suspect would roam the residence claiming to inspect the roof. In one incident an undetermined amount of cash was taken. In each incident the suspect(s) left in a van described as grey, or tan.     

Residents are urged to be cautious and not admit strangers into their homes. Anyone with information regarding these incidents should call Detective Ron Smith at 689-1385.

 

Amherst Police Looking for Bank Robbery Suspect

The Amherst Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred on Tuesday July 24, 2012 at around 3:40 pm at the Key Bank located on Main Street at Springville Avenue.     

The black male suspect pictured in security image is described as 5’9” tall, 190 lbs, wearing eye glasses, light yellow or cream colored button down short sleeve shirt, dark pants and a dark cap.     

The suspect handed the clerk a note and made off with an undetermined amount of money and then fled the bank on foot westbound towards Kenmore Avenue.     

Detectives are looking for any additional information or witnesses who were in the area and may have seen any thing suspicious around the time of the robbery.  Any information related to this crime contact the Amherst Police Detective Bureau at 689-1336.

Pharmacy Out $350 of Weight Loss Supplements from Shoplifting

The Amherst Police are looking for the identity of a shoplifter who stole over $350 worth of weight loss supplements from a Transit Road pharmacy on 6/19/2012 around 5:00 pm.

The suspect who is pictured in the security footage is a white male 35-40 years old, and is 6 foot tall, about 230 lbs with dark hair and thin mustache.  The suspect was wearing glasses and a navy blue jacket with white stripes across the chest and down the arms, on both the front and back.  There also was an unknown logo on the front left chest of the jacket.

Amherst Police Seeking Suspect Wanted for Public Lewdness

The Amherst Police are investigating an incident that occurred in a parking lot off of Transit Road near Maple Road on Sunday 7/15/2012 around 4:15 pm.     

The suspect pulled his vehicle behind a female victim’s vehicle as she was parking.  The suspect turned on blue flashing lights on the front of the suspect vehicle.  The suspect then called the victim to his vehicle and then exposed his private parts to the victim.       

The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, medium build, mustache and possibly a goatee.  The suspect vehicle is described as a 2009 or newer Honda Pilot color white, with blue LED lights (the type used by volunteer firefighters) in the windshield on either side of the rear viewer mirror.

Puppy Stolen from Amherst Pet Store Located and Returned

Puppy Stolen from Amherst Pet Store Located and Returned
  • UPDATE:  7/10/2012,  With a tip received from the WGRZ Channel 2 News Facebook page, Amherst Police located the puppy and it was returned to the store.  Police are continuing to investigate.

The Amherst Police are looking for the suspect who stole a 12 week old female Yorkshire Terrier puppy from an Amherst pet store.  The suspect was in the store with 3 juveniles.

The puppy valued over $1,000 was stolen from a viewing kennel area of the store on 6/28/2012.  Pictured in the security video is the white female suspect who appears to be in her 30’s with dark hair.  The suspect was with three juveniles, one was darker skinned female 10-11 years old, a darker skinned male about 8-10 years old and a white female 4-5 years old.

Shoplifter Steals $100 Worth of Perfume and Cosmetics from Amherst Store

The Amherst Police are looking for the identity of a shoplifter who stole over $100 worth of perfume and cosmetics from a Niagara Falls Boulevard store on 6/12/2012.

The suspect who is pictured in the security footage is a black female 5'4" tall and about 200 lbs with medium brown hair. The suspect fled the area in an early 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette (mini-van), color red.
