Erie County Legislator Ray Walter, R-Amherst, Clarence, Newstead, announces the return of free spring guided walks in County parks. The purpose of the program is to promote healthy family fun and encourage residents to be more active.

“Erie County is once again offering this wonderful activity in several of its parks. I am pleased that free guided tours of Akron Falls Park will once again be held, this is a beautiful park,” Legislator Walter said. “Not only do these walks promote healthy lifestyles, but they are a free activity, which is something a lot of families need during these difficult times. The county parks have been greatly improved during the past few years, making a visit to them much more enjoyable.”

Registration for all walks begins at 9 a.m. onsite. Walks have been planned on the following days:

  • Saturday, May 14 at Akron Falls Park, Parkview Drive, Akron. Meet at Cumming Lodge.
  • Saturday, May 21 at Sprague Brook Park, 9674 Foote Road, Glenwood. Meet at the Casino.
  • Saturday, June 4 at Ellicott Creek Park, Niagara Falls Boulevard and Ellicott Creek Road, Tonawanda. Meet at the Friendship House.
  • Saturday, June 11 at Emery Park, 2084 Emery Road, South Wales. Meet at the Fieldhouse.
  • Saturday, June 18 at Isleview Park, 796 Niagara Street, Tonawanda. Meet at Gazebo 2.

At these walks attendees will be able to learn more about how to get healthy and stay healthy, and receive health screenings targeting blood pressure and BMI. Assorted health education materials and smoking cessation services, products, and cessation program enrollment is available at each walk.
