"Auction for Farm Animals" preview

With the Auction only a few days away I thought showing off some of the great items would be something everyone would like. The support of the local artisans has been really outstanding, and with nearly 20 gift certificates everyone who joins us Monday September 27th is sure to find something they love.

Many of the shops that donated are located on the Elmwood strip, and with fall quickly approaching, despite what today's weather is telling you, a walk along the Elmwood strip seeing the leaves changing, and shopping at these great shops is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon, or evening.

3rd Annual Conquer Chiari Walk Across America

This past weekend was the first ever Conquer Chiari Walk in WNY. Amherst resident Agnes Starr joined forces with the Conquer Chiari Organization to help raise Awareness and funding for Chiari & Syringomyelia Awareness. This was the 3rd Annual Conquer Chiari Walk Across America but the first of its kind in our area. It took place Saturday Sept. 18th at Ellicott Creek Park in Tonawanda and raised over $20,000 towards research!

Chiari affects over 300,000 people in the US. Chiari is a serious neurological disorder in which the brain herniates out of the skull and puts pressure on the nerves and spinal cord causing debilitating pain and life-threatening symptoms.

The walk is a series of walks in different cities taking place on the same day to bring awareness and raise money for research.

Five Days until the "Auction for Farm Animals" at Merge Restaurant

The above video, if not visable can also be viewed by clicking here. I chose to post it because the celebrities here share my sentiments. They discuss what it is to visit Farm Sanctuary, and Gene Baur talks about rescue, and what the food industry really is, as do many of the celebrities. John Joseph is featured, and will actually be in town with Cro-Mags next month. If you are attaching a stigma to vegans, something like "hippy, tree hugger, skinny, or wimp" I assure you that John Joseph breaks those stereotypes, or that stigma. Buffalo native Wolfe Blitzer recently interviewed Bill Clinton about his vegan diet, to watch click the highlighted name.

"A Night for Ned"

A Night for Ned, a benefit for Ned Wood and his family. This is a non-profit organization in support of Ned Wood who was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. The objective is to raise funds for Ned's increasing medical expenses. Many of us who grew up in Buffalo may know, or recognize Ned Wood, he is a founding member and one of the driving creative talents from the bands: WEEKEND, THE BBC BAND, BEATLEMAJIC, 33 WEST, & SHINER. He was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame in 2000. Outside of his live performances he is a seasoned recording studio musician and an artist who is known for his incredible concept murals for Buffalo State College, and Niagara Mohawk.
