‘Double Up Food Bucks’ Returns to Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market on July 4

 

The popular Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, featuring nearly 40 vendors selling fresh, seasonal and local produce and products, continues on Saturday, July 4. Hours at the open-air market, a program of the Elmwood Village Association, are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine, through November. 

The “Double Up Food Bucks” program is back for a second season and will be available at the market from July 4 through the end of October. The program provides low-income individuals who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits with a $1 for $1 match (up to $20) to purchase fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables. Please visit the Elmwood Village Association table at the market for details.

The Church of the Annunciation’s annual summer picnic has always been a highly anticipated event for those living in and around the Elma area, but this year’s event features some new attractions that already have people talking!

Three handcrafted items built by the parish’s dedicated volunteers called the St. Joseph Workers will be featured in a special raffle to be managed by the parish’s Ladies Sodality. The wooden items include a beautiful rocking horse, glider and wall cabinet.

Annunciation’s expanding Pre-K program to host open house events

 

The Strong Start Early Learning Academy at the Church of the Annunciation in Elma will host two upcoming open house events to showcase its expanding Pre-K program. The open house events will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, June 29, and 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28. Annunciation Strong Start is located at 7580 Clinton St. in Elma.

For the 2015-16 school year, Annunciation will offer Pre-K3 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, while the Pre-K4/5 program will expand and be offered from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Also in 2015-16, the program will offer before- and after-school options with drop-off beginning at 7:30 a.m. weekdays and a “lunch bunch” from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Drum Corps Champion Blue Devils to Visit Western New York on July 7

 

The reigning Drum Corps International world champion Blue Devils from Concord, Calif., will visit Western New York on Tuesday, July 7, as a prelude to the annual Drums Along the Waterfront “Tour of Champions” event taking place on Sunday, Aug. 2, at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park.

The Blue Devils will visit Riverside Institute of Technology, 51 Ontario St., Buffalo, from approximately 1 to 10 p.m. for a special rehearsal that will be free and open to the public.

Roycroft Summer Festival expands to offer demonstrations, new book and more

 

The highly anticipated Roycroft Summer Festival, presented by the Roycrofters-At-Large Association and featuring the work of more than 80 juried artisans, will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 27-28, on the grounds of Parkdale Elementary School, 141 Girard Ave., East Aurora. 

The historic festival, now in its 39th year, will have a new twist this year with the addition of demonstrations and lectures by Roycroft Artisans! The schedule follows, and there is no cost to participate.
