Legislator Rath partners with UNYTS to host blood drive


(Amherst, NY) – Erie County Legislator Edward A. Rath III, R-Amherst, has partnered with Upstate New York Transplant Services to host a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at The Northtown Center at Amherst, second floor, 1615 Amherst Manor Drive (the former Pepsi Center).  


“I encourage all residents who are able to attend the blood drive and donate to Upstate New York Transplant Services, which holds several of these drives a month to meet all area residents’ needs,” Legislator Rath said.


Univera Reports 127,000 Stroke Survivors in Upstate New York

BUFFALO, N.Y. – About 338,000 adults living in New York state – including 127,250 upstate New Yorkers – reported having survived a stroke during their lifetimes, according to a report released Tuesday by Univera Healthcare.

The average annual hospital discharge rate for stroke in upstate New York from 2006 to 2008 was 253.1 per 100,000, or about 12,400 people each year.
