The Astronomy of Christmas-Harmony of Science and Scripture

A special holiday presentation by Pastor Michael Kistner from Starfish Ministries WNY will focus on how science and Scripture harmonize regarding the birth of Jesus Christ.  This is a must see for anyone that has an interest in astronomy, wonders when Christ was actually born, what the Star of Bethlehem was, who were the Magi and when did they arrive.

 Using Scripture, history and a modern astronomy program, Pastor Mike has connected the Scriptures relating to Christ's birth with what is now verifiable by modern astronomy and computer projections. The presentation is r Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 6PM with a light supper furnished or Saturday, December 19th at 2PM.

Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market to Host Indoor Winter Market at Buffalo State

 

The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, in partnership with the Elmwood Village Association and SUNY Buffalo State, announced today that for the very first time, the popular market will continue during the winter months at an indoor location. The market, which typically concludes its seasonal run on the last Saturday of November, will now continue from Dec. 5, 2015, through April 30, 2016, in Buckham Hall on the Buffalo State campus, 1300 Elmwood Ave. Buckham Hall is located on Rockwell Road near Grant Street. Free parking will be available on campus during market hours.

AT&T, United Way of Buffalo & Erie County, University at Buffalo, dig Buffalo, InfoTech WNY and Buffalo Open Data partner to host a civic hackathon challenging teams to create innovative software and/or hardware solutions that will serve the community

 WNY Civic Hackathon powered by AT&T, the first ever daylong hackathon dedicated to solving local civic issues in the region, will challenge teams to face off to deliver the best civic technological solution in a 13 hour period for the following local issues; Housing/Property Blight, Transportation, and Advocacy/Public Policy. Cash prizes totaling $3,500 will be awarded, with a grand prize of $2,000, followed by a second place prize of $1,000 and $500 for third place.

West Seneca Farmers’ Market to Conclude Season with Customer Appreciation Day

 

Main Street Marketplace, West Seneca’s popular open-air farmers’ and food producers’ marketplace sponsored by the Western New York Federal Credit Union, will conclude its 2015 season with Customer Appreciation Day from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3.

The weekly market takes place on the grassy hill at the corner of Union Road and Main Street, next to West Seneca Town Hall. The outdoor venue features nearly 30 vendors selling a wide variety of products. In the event of unfavorable weather, the market moves into the parking lot in front of the West Seneca Ice Rink.

‘Double Up Food Bucks’ Returns to Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market on July 4

 

The popular Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, featuring nearly 40 vendors selling fresh, seasonal and local produce and products, continues on Saturday, July 4. Hours at the open-air market, a program of the Elmwood Village Association, are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine, through November. 

The “Double Up Food Bucks” program is back for a second season and will be available at the market from July 4 through the end of October. The program provides low-income individuals who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits with a $1 for $1 match (up to $20) to purchase fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables. The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market will hold its fifth annual poster contest to promote the outdoor market’s upcoming 2015 season. Entries for the poster competition are due by 5 p.m. Friday, March 6. Whether you’re a student studying the arts, a professional graphic designer or just someone with a creative streak, you’re invited to submit your design for an 11x17-inch color poster that accurately reflects the feel of the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market.
