Backyard Charity Hockey Tournament Growing
News

AMHERST, NY - A Williamsville teen is taking his backyard charity hockey tournament to new heights.

Nick Penberthy grew up playing hockey on the backyard ice rink he and his family built every winter.

Four years ago, he decided to start a small scale hockey tournament to raise money for Hasek's Heroes, a charity which gives low-income children the opportunity to play the sport free of charge.

Nick started with eight teams.  Now he's up to 60 teams and 240 players, and his efforts have gotten the attention of some big name sponsors.

Tim Horton's purchased the naming rights for the tournament, which is now the Tim Horton's Backyard Classic.

Nick has raised about $10,000 to date, and he is looking to match that amount this year.

If you'd like to sign up to play, donate, or offer up your backyard rink as one of this year's sites, visit timhortonsbackyardclassic.com
