LANCASTER, N.Y.-In the MMAA/ECIC CHallenge Monday night at St. Mary's of Lancaster Sweet Home beat Nichols 63-52. With the win the Panthers improve to 2-0 on the young season while Nichols drops its first game of the year to fall to 4-1 on the season.

For Nichols sophomore # 40 Cameron Lewis led the way wit a double double, 15 points and 12 rebounds. Sweet Home's top scorer was # 11 Khalid Barnes who finished with 14 points.

Panthers head coach Scott Martin told Two On Your Side's Stu Boyar "we're moving in the right direction. Again, we have a lot start because of the success of our football team. That put us behind in terms of practice time however obviously we want the kids to take full advantage of the celebration but now we move into the hoop season. Tonight we beat a good opponent. When you have 3,4,5 games under your belt you have better experience than we have right now. We have three sophomores on the roster that play significant minutes for us. This win sets us up nicely for league play." Sweet Home opens league play Friday night at Iroqouis.

Nichols head coach John Reinholz told Stu "we were up by four with minutes to go and that's when Sweet Home took over. They got more physical and hit their free throws. Brad Zaffram did a nice job neutralizing the middle. Down the stretch we showed signs of being young. When it got physical, that's when our youth showed. I thought Sweet Home did a nice job of maintaining their poise and hitting free throws down the stretch."

Sweet Home was 9 for 12 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

In the final game of the Challenge Monday night Bishop Timon beat Kenmore West 65-59. Its the Tigers first win  of the season after dropping their first three games of the year.
