WNY Woman Going to National Grocery Bagging Competition | News

AMHERST, N.Y. - Gina Traniello has packed hundreds of bags during her six and a half years as Tops associate, but this weekend she'll pay close attention to three bags in particular.

Traniello is competing in the National Grocers Association's "Best Bagger Competition" in Las Vegas where she'll go head-to-head against state champions from across the country.

She already won the New York state competition, after winning in several local challenges.

The grand prize in Vegas is $10,000.

Competitors are judged on speed, proper bag building technique, weight distribution, attitude and appearance.

Traniello and the other contestants will have to pack three reusable bags with more than two dozen mystery items revealed to them on the day of the competition.

Traniello is heading to Sin City with her family and fellow Tops employees on Friday.

The competition will be held Sunday afternoon.
