UB North Campus Building Back Open After Gas Leak Scare

AMHERST, N.Y. - The University at Buffalo Police have reopened Bonner Hall on the Amhert North campus after they evacuated it just before 5 p.m. on Friday.

Officials were concerned about a possible natural gas leak.

On Friday afternoon, they sent the following text message:

UB Alert: UB Police are evacuating Bonner Hall on North Campus because of possible natural gas leak. Stay out and away from the building until further notice.

Bonner Hall is part of the school of engineering.

ASPCA's $100K Challenge

BUFFALO, NY - This Sunday marks the official start to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals $100K Challenge to Save More Lives.

Back in April, shelter contestants across the country started working tirelessly to save at least 300 hundred more animals than they did over the same three month period in 2009.

The shelter that achieves the greatest increase in lives saved during that three-month period over the last year will receive a $100,000 grant from the ASPCA to continue its life-saving work. A second grant of $25,000 will be awarded to the shelter that does the best job of engaging its community in helping to save more lives.

Amherst Health Fair Saturday

AMHERST, NY-Kaleida Health and Assemblyman Jim Hayes are sponsoring a large health fair on Saturday, August 7th.

It's set to take place at the Amherst Senior Center on John James Audobon Parkway from 9 AM - Noon.

There will be free cholesterol and blood-pressure screening, as well as glucose and prostate cancer testing.

The Erie County Department of Environment and Planning will be on hand to accept your expired, unwanted or unused prescription medicines for proper disposal.

The New York State Police will be on hand to provide Child Safety Seat checks.

Many other activities are also planned, including a blood donation drive.

Niagara Falls Blvd Access Ramp Closed Aug 5

The access ramp from southbound US Route 62 (Niagara Falls Boulevard) to eastbound Interstate 290, will be closed to all traffic beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, and reopen at 7 a.m. the following morning.

Traffic will be directed to follow a posted detour on Niagara Falls Boulevard to Sheridan Drive, then proceed east on Sheridan Drive towards Millersport Highway.

The ramp is being closed to repair a bridge on the 290. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the week.

Excelsior Orthopedics and WNY Breast Health Open House

AMHERST, NY-Amherst Supervisor Dr. Barry Weinstein, State Senator Michael Ranzenhofer and Assemblyman Jim Hayes will be recognized on Wednesday, August 11th, as part of the Excelsior Orthopaedics and WNY Breast Health Open House.

The event will take place from 5-8 PM at the Amherst office located at 3925 Sheridan Drive between Harlem Road and Harold Drive.
