And Then There Were Three; Song Reaches Final Round

In less than a week, Cheektowaga graduate Lisa Barrett will know if her song is the best in the world.

Barrett penned a track titled “When You Look at Me” in memory of her nephew, Austin, who lost his battle with cancer just shy of his second birthday, and the song has made it to the sixth round of the international Best Original Song Competition.

Cheektowaga Graduate’s Song Reaches Final Six in Contest

Lisa Barrett hopes for your continued support now that her original song has reached the fifth round as one of six remaining tunes in the international Best Original Song Competition.

The 1986 Cheektowaga Central graduate wrote “When You Look at Me” in memory of her nephew, Austin, who lost his battle with cancer just shy of his second birthday. While she had performed in church folk groups and high school musicals, Barrett never had written a song, but she wanted to be Austin’s voice.

“If you've never experienced it, there is no greater pain than the loss of a child,” she said. “Writing became the grieving outlet I had been searching for.”

Benefit for Greg Weber

Greg is a dedicated father of three boys and a retired U.S. Army National Guard Captain who served as a Medivac Helicopter Pilot. He was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in early fall of 2010 and is currently going through some extensive chemotherapy treatments at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Due to his severe medical condition, Greg is unable to consistently work to support his wife, Chandra, and his three adorable sons, who are all under the age of eight. We would also like to honor Greg for his ten years of service.
