Local Artisan's Work to Adorn Altarpiece

From the moment the Rev. Dr. R. William Franklin becomes Bishop of Western New York on April 30, 2011, Western New York will be always be near at hand and close to his heart.

The first thing those attending the consecration service being held at 11 a.m. at the University at Buffalo’s Center for the Arts are likely to notice will be the 8 foot wide custom altar frontal.

The frontal was designed by the Reinvestment Group from St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Westfield, NY, using fabrics donated by churches around our seven county diocese.

Jane Corwin Follows Republicans to Decimate Medicare

The following is a statement from Fabien Levy, Director of Communications for Kathy Hochul for Congress:

“On April 15, after a week of prodding, Assemblymember Jane Corwin finally admitted she supports the Republican’s 2012 budget that would end Medicare as we know it and give massive tax breaks to America’s corporate giants – the same corporate giants that paid absolutely nothing in income taxes last year.

“Jane Corwin talks a lot about cutting spending, closing corporate loopholes, coming up with alternative energy plans, and protecting our seniors, but the truth is Jane Corwin is all talk and no action.  She says she has a ‘plan’ that would ‘fight to begin getting our national addiction to spending under control.’  Well that plan is a point-by-point copy of the Republican budget, which does none of those things.

“Assemblymember Corwin has publicly supported a budget that cuts taxes on majo

Living With Your Pet Without Unleashing Allergies

Living With Your Pet Without Unleashing Allergies

(Welcome to our pet column, courtesy of Pet Connection Programs Inc. of Marilla. We post a new article each week, so be sure to check back on a regular basis!)

Allergies no longer have to prevent pet ownership. By taking a few simple precautionary steps, it is possible to comfortably live with both pets and allergies. Here are a few helpful tips:

Shut the door. Keep cats or dogs from your bedroom — and not just when you are sleeping. If you keep the door closed, it will prevent cat or dog hair from drifting in during the day. This also applies to a guest room if you happen to be hosting a guest with allergies.

Keep pets off the furniture. You can do this by placing a plastic cover on the furniture or by placing pieces of aluminum foil on areas where pets settle. They find the noise disturbing.
