Two Men to be Ordained to the Priesthood this Saturday

Two men will receive the sacrament of holy orders when Bishop Edward U. Kmiec ordains them to the priesthood Saturday morning.

Rev. Mr. David Richards and Rev. Mr. Thomas Roman, who were ordained transitional deacons in February, will be surrounded by family, friends and brother priests at the special 10 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral, 50 Franklin St., Buffalo.

Deacon Richards, the son of Margaret Mary and the late Daniel Richards, didn’t start out with an intention to become a priest. He attended Canisius College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics. He worked in sales and was even engaged before he turned his world 180 degrees by quitting his job, calling off his engagement and moving back to Buffalo from California.

Vidaver Presents Information on Earning Money as a Freelancer

"At our September 30th Fifth Thursday dinner, our Founder, Lois Vidaver, gave us a presentation on how to earn money as a freelance author. She discussed writing for trade magazines, how to find them, how to get assignments, where to look, and how to become a staff writer. She also discussed how to find the appropriate people to interview and how much to expect to get paid. It was an excellent and informative presentation. Lois also brought in several magazines so we could see examples of her published work." --Lionel Nosenchuck.

We're looking for writers to join our group. We meet at 7PM on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at Crossroads Lutheran Church, 4640 Main St. in Amherst, NY 14226.

Miles for Megan Benefits New Mother with Leukemia

When Megan Smith began going into labor, her mind was on little else than delivering her child. But a routine blood test revealed an abnormality that altered things. “When it was about time for the epidural, the doctors did a CBC and found some abnormalities in the white blood count,” said her husband Ryan. “Instead of a normal 5-10k, it was around 40k.”

Megan was able to hold her baby, named Rylee Hannah, for a few minutes before they rushed her to Roswell Park Cancer Instititute in an ambulance. She was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and has been undergoing treatment ever since. In a matter of 2 months, she has undergone 2 rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.
