Dr. Lewis First from University of Vermont Presents Annual Richard T. Sarkin Grand Rounds Lecture

Lewis First, MD, Chairman of Pediatrics, University of Vermont College of Medicine, Chief of Pediatrics at Vermont Children's Hospital, and Editor -in-Chief of Pediatrics, is the guest speaker for the annual Grand Rounds Lecture sponsored by the Richard T. Sarkin, M.D., Foundation for Medical Education.

Dr. First presented, "Thoughts on Humanistic Pediatric Leadership: some first impressions after 16 fun-filled years as a Pediatric Department Chair".

Meet Western New York's Newest Catholic Priests

St. Joseph Cathedral in downtown Buffalo was filled to capacity on Oct. 9 for the ordinations of Father David Richards and Father Thomas Roman.

Bishop Edward U. Kmiec, bishop of Buffalo, presided at the Mass.  Dozens of priests were also present.  The bishop quoted from Pope Benedict XVI's "The Hands of a Priest." 

Dr. Jerrold Lerman Reviews and Provides Commentary for Article Published in The Lancet

Jerrold Lerman, MD, FRCPC, Attending Anesthesiologist at Women & Children’s Hospital, was a reviewer and requested to provide a commentary for an article recently published in The Lancet, entitled, “Risk Assessment Questionnaire Identifies Likelihood of Anesthetic Complications in Children Prior to Surgery.”

The Lancet is the world's leading general medical journal and specialty journals in Oncology, Neurology and Infectious Diseases.

As one of four reviewers for this article, Dr. Lerman was then requested to provide an objective comment on the clinical relevance of this study and implications for children under anesthesia.

Two Men to be Ordained to the Priesthood this Saturday

Two men will receive the sacrament of holy orders when Bishop Edward U. Kmiec ordains them to the priesthood Saturday morning.

Rev. Mr. David Richards and Rev. Mr. Thomas Roman, who were ordained transitional deacons in February, will be surrounded by family, friends and brother priests at the special 10 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral, 50 Franklin St., Buffalo.

Deacon Richards, the son of Margaret Mary and the late Daniel Richards, didn’t start out with an intention to become a priest. He attended Canisius College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics. He worked in sales and was even engaged before he turned his world 180 degrees by quitting his job, calling off his engagement and moving back to Buffalo from California.

Holiday Dinner Dance Featuring Jack Civiletto & The Pyramid Band to Benefit Pet Connection

Tickets are now available for a Holiday Concert/Dinner Dance featuring Jack Civiletto & The Pyramid Band that will take place from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, December 4, at the Hearthstone Manor, 333 Dick Road, Depew. Proceeds from the event will benefit Pet Connection Programs Inc., a special care shelter for dogs and cats located in Marilla.

Vidaver Presents Information on Earning Money as a Freelancer

"At our September 30th Fifth Thursday dinner, our Founder, Lois Vidaver, gave us a presentation on how to earn money as a freelance author. She discussed writing for trade magazines, how to find them, how to get assignments, where to look, and how to become a staff writer. She also discussed how to find the appropriate people to interview and how much to expect to get paid. It was an excellent and informative presentation. Lois also brought in several magazines so we could see examples of her published work." --Lionel Nosenchuck.
