Jamestown, NY – With fall just around the corner, now is the time to stock up on birdseed to be sure our feathered friends visit your home throughout the winter.

Monday, October 3, is the deadline for placing orders for the Audubon Nature Center’s fall sale of a variety of birdseeds and related items. In addition to the exclusively formulated Conewango Blend for local birds, specialty seeds, “cakes,” suet cage feeders, and other treats are also available. 

Your many choices can be found by clicking on the “Bird Seed” page at www.jamestownaudubon.org or calling the Nature Center at (716) 569-2345 during business hours. 

Orders can be submitted online, phoned, mailed, or faxed. Friends of the Nature Center receive an 18% discount on pre-ordered birdseed. (You can become a member by clicking on “Membership” at www.jamestownaudubon.org.)

Jamestown, NY – Whatever your gift needs – holidays, celebrations, remembrances -- it’s always a great time to shop at the Blue Heron Gift Shop in the Audubon Nature Center.

With 50% off all logo merchandise through Sunday, September 25, now is an especially good time to visit. Logo merchandise -- t-shirts, polo shirts, jackets, car window stickers, travel mugs, and even bandanas with maps of the Audubon property – will be half price, as long as supplies last.

“Since we’ll soon be doing inventory in the Gift Shop, we’re giving both ourselves and our customers a break by having a sale,” said President Ruth Lundin.

Lundin noted that the Blue Heron carries a wide range of items. Regular merchandise features puppets, puzzles, distinctive jewelry, notecards and stationery, handcrafted walking sticks, and locally-made soaps and jams and jellies.

Rummage Sale at Amherst Senior Center 7/15 & 7/16

The Amherst Center for Senior Services will be accepting items in good condition for its upcoming Rummage Sale beginning on Friday, July 8 through Thursday, July 14 between the hours of 8:30 am – 4:00 pm. No clothing will be accepted. Items can be delivered to the Main Entrance of the Center and receipts for tax purposes will be given upon request.

The Rummage Sale will take place on Friday, July 15 from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM AND Saturday, July 16 from 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the Amherst Center for Senior Services which is located at 370 John James Audubon Parkway in Amherst, behind the Audubon Library (Exit 3 off the I-990 North). All proceeds benefit the Center’s programs, services and activities.

Ray Bentley, Wegmans Pair Up to Offer a Great Father’s Day Gift

Current ESPN college football analyst and former Buffalo Bills linebacker and member of Super Bowl XXV and XXVI teams, Ray Bentley, is partnering with Wegmans to promote his novel, Driftwood, as the perfect Father’s Day gift.

Ray will be on hand this weekend to sign autographs at two Wegmans locations. On Friday, June 10, from 4 to 6 p.m., he will be at Wegmans’ McKinley Parkway store located at 3740 McKinley Parkway, Blasdell. Then on Saturday, June 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., he will be signing copies of Driftwood at the 675 Alberta Drive location in East Amherst. In addition to Driftwood, copies of Ray’s children’s book classic, Darby’s Christmas Adventure, will be available for purchase.

Dalia’s Bridal, located at 4558 Main St. in Snyder, will hold a month-long sales event in June to benefit the Food Bank of WNY.

Throughout the month of June, visitors are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to the store that will be donated to the Food Bank. During this time, Dalia’s will also host its first annual “Spring Into Summer Clearance Sale” with 30 to 85 percent off select bridal wear, and select bridal gowns starting at just $99.

“A portion of all sales during the month of June will also be donated to the Food Bank of WNY,” said the store’s owner, Dalia Nowak. “The Food Bank plays a vital role in our community, and we consider it an honor to help them continue their service and outreach.”

It was a quiet Sunday morning in Blasdell when two white vans carrying 25 guests from SUNY New Paltz pulled up to the Past & Present Science and Nature Store on South Park Avenue just past 10 a.m. For most of the earth science education and geology majors on a four-day excursion through upstate and Western New York, it was their first visit to this hidden gem.

And suddenly, these future scientists and educators were like kids in a candy store, their expressions of glee and excitement immediately noticeable as they walked through the front entrance.

Elmwood Village Winter Market at Buffalo State Continues on March 26

Stock up for your Easter table! The Elmwood Village Winter Market at Buffalo State, an indoor version of the popular Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, continues from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26. The market takes place in Buckham Hall on the campus of SUNY Buffalo State, 1300 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo. The 20-week winter market will run through April 30.

In addition to hosting nearly 20 quality vendors, Rob Falgiano will provide musical entertainment from approximately 10:30 a.m. to noon on March 26. 

Buckham Hall is located on Rockwell Road near Grant Street. Free parking is available on campus during market hours, and Lot R-13 is recommended for convenience.
